Last fall, the Board of Selectmen, in its role as the Light Board, adopted the recommendations of the Temporary Net Metering Working Group. The recommendations included an updated solar tariff and grandfathering for current residential solar hosts who will continue to receive retail net metering for all electricity delivered to the Belmont Light Distribution system for three years.
I believe this was a fair and balanced solution to what was a long standing issue. The Light Board also strongly endorsed and supported the Belmont Goes Solar Campaign sponsored by the Energy Committee, Mothers out Front, Sustainable Belmont and the Belmont Light Department. The campaign goal was one hundred new solar installation contracts to be signed by the end of April; that goal has been exceeded and could, in fact, double. The Belmont Goes Solar Campaign has been enormously successful.
